The YWCA of Moncton is looking for local Gardens to feature in its Greater Moncton Garden Tour to be held July 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Do you know of anyone willing to open their garden to us? Deadline for nominations is June 26, 2009. The Garden Tour is a major fundraising event for the YWCA of Moncton. Featured will be Moncton’s finest gardens. Sport Academy NB invites children aged 5-10 to participate in its new “LEARN to BIKE” Program on WEDNESDAYS June 3,10, 17 and 24 between 6:15 and 7:15 (ages 5-7) and between 7:20 and 8:20 (ages 8-10) at the ‘Le Mascaret’ middle school (50, promenade Léopold F. Belliveau, Moncton). This program will allow children to learn to bike safely on trail and cycling lanes, learn road safety, develop the technical abilities required for fun and safe biking, including cycling balance, coordination and skills. Jana Miller, soprano and Pierre-André Doucet, pianist will give a recital at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16 at the Salle Neil-Michaud (Department of Music, Université de Moncton). The third annual Moncton Highland Games will take place on June 20 and 21 at MacNaughton High School, located at 999 St. George Boulevard. On June 21st, many South-Eastern New Brunswick communities will celebrate the Fête de la Musique with free concerts and musical picnics. Scheduled to play are close to 30 musical acts, with a total of 150 musicians, spread out over a dozen stages with styles ranging from classical to rock and jazz to traditional Acadian music, from 9 a.m. until 2 a.m. in Moncton, Dieppe, Memramcook, Shediac and Bouctouche. Among the participating artists at this year’s event are singer-songwriters Daniel Goguen, Lisa LeBlanc, Maxime McGraw, Julie Aubé and Jason LeBlanc pianist Nicole Forest, bands Something Delicious, Altered Roots, Moncton Mingus Band, Scandium, Nord-Sud and Xéno, as well as traditional music with Nathasha Richard, Eric Haché and Mario Lebreton. The percussion class from the Metro Moncton School of Music will perform, in addition to the Université de Moncton’s Music preparatory school.
